This page lists what remoteisland stores, why, and who else sees it. It
describes what the code actually does. There is no analytics package on this site, no
advertising pixel, and no third-party tracker of any kind — the only cookie set is the one
that keeps you signed in.
What we store
If you never sign in
Nothing about you. The board is fully readable signed out, and reading it creates no
record tied to you.
Your account
- Your email address, and whether it has been verified.
- If you sign in with Google: the account identifier Google gives us, your display
name, and your avatar image URL. We never receive your Google password.
- The country you select, and the profile answers you give — languages you speak,
countries you are already authorised to work in, professional credentials you hold,
and whether you are currently open to opportunities.
- Your subscription status, and if you pay, your customer and subscription
identifiers at our payment processor.
Your résumé, if you upload one
- The original file, kept whole, so you can download back exactly what you gave us.
It is served only through an authenticated route and never from a public URL.
- The plain text extracted from it. This — not the file — is what matching reads.
- What we inferred from it (languages, work authorisation, credentials), so the
profile can show its working rather than assert a conclusion.
- Short verbatim quotes from it, saved against the job requirements they answer.
That is how a match can tell you why it is a match instead of asking you to
trust a score.
What you do here
- Jobs you save, jobs you mark as applied to, and any note you write on them.
- Alerts you create and a record of which alert emails were sent to you.
- Anything you report to us about a listing, and any hire outcome you tell us about.
Technical
- A hash of your session cookie, when the session was created and last used, and the
browser user-agent string it belongs to — so you can be signed out everywhere.
- A hash of each sign-in link and the IP address that requested it, so a flood of
requests from one place can be throttled. We store the hash, never the link itself.
Who else sees it
We do not sell your data, we do not share it for advertising, and we never send your
résumé to an employer. When you apply, you apply on the employer's own site; nothing is
submitted on your behalf.
These are the services the site depends on, and the only thing each one receives:
- Anthropic — the text of your résumé and the text of job postings, to work out
which requirements your experience actually answers. Under Anthropic's commercial
terms this content is not used to train their models.
- Resend — your email address, to deliver sign-in links and job alerts.
- Polar — payment details, if you subscribe. Polar is the merchant of record
and handles the card. Card numbers never reach our servers.
- Google — only if you choose Google sign-in, and only to confirm it is you.
- Our hosting and database provider, which stores the data described above.
The one that deserves a plain sentence: matching works by sending your résumé
text to a language model at Anthropic and asking, requirement by requirement, whether your
experience answers it. If you would rather that never happen, do not upload a résumé — the
board, alerts, and saved jobs all work without one.
Keeping and deleting
You can delete your résumé at any time from your profile. Deleting the file also
deletes the extracted text and the saved quotes taken from it.
To delete your account and everything attached to it, write to us through the report link on any listing page and we will
remove it. We answer these ourselves; there is no queue and no retention hold.
Alert delivery records are kept so the same job is not emailed to you twice. Sign-in
links expire and can only be used once.
Children
This is a job board for working adults. It is not directed at anyone under 16 and we do
not knowingly keep data about them.
Changes
If this page changes materially, the date at the top changes with it and anyone with an
account is emailed.
