About the role

Fishing Planet is an independent game studio made up of talented and dedicated people who created a successful free-to-play game from scratch. Today, Fishing Planet is available on eight platforms — Steam, Epic Games, Microsoft Store, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and mobile (iOS and Android). Our global community now includes over 35 million players and continues to grow every day.

We are committed to continuous improvement, providing our team with the resources, tools, and environment they need to build stable, rewarding, and long-term careers — while creating ambitious games that players want to return to again and again.

We are looking for a strong generalist Game Designer with a focus on core gameplay mechanics and game economy, who can take ownership of features and drive their design from initial concept through implementation, testing, and release.

Your impact

  • Design, develop, and iterate on core gameplay mechanics and systems.
  • Design and balance game economy, progression, rewards, upgrades, and other interconnected systems.
  • Take ownership of gameplay features end-to-end from initial concept and design through implementation, playtesting, balancing, and iteration.
  • Improve and expand existing systems while introducing new mechanics and content for a live F2P product.
  • Contribute to level design, player flow, and the integration of gameplay mechanics within locations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring features from concept to release.
  • Analyze player experience and gameplay data to identify improvements that support engagement and product KPIs.

You will bring

  • 5+ years of professional game design experience.
  • Strong experience designing core gameplay mechanics and complex game systems.
  • Experience with game economy, progression, balancing, and reward systems.
  • Ability to independently own and develop a feature from concept to release.
  • Experience with F2P and live games and a good understanding of player engagement and product goals.
  • Experience designing for multiple platforms, particularly PC and consoles.
  • Good understanding of level design, player flow, and gameplay spaces.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.

Will be a plus

  • Experience with Unity.
  • Experience with simulator or other system-heavy games.
  • Experience shipping games on PC and consoles.
  • Knowledge of and interest in fishing.

Why join us

  • Make a direct impact on a successful live game played by more than 35 million people worldwide.
  • Work with a complex, established product and contribute to its future development.
  • Collaborate with an experienced and global team.
  • Enjoy a 4-day work week and a strong commitment to work-life balance.
  • Join a culture built on P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S., where passion, responsibility, openness, growth, respect, efficiency, player-focus, and agility drive everything we do.
